Welcome to Solo Sojourns, a travel blog for older women who want to have the confidence to go it alone! Primarily a travel blog it will also address health and wellness issues associated with ageing and my passion for healthy food.
First impressions of Vancouver BC is that it’s a lively, diverse city. Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast mountains, it seems to be a melting pot of ethnicities and cultural influences and offers a unique blend of urban living and access to nature.

Sight-seeing was elusive as it turned out to be grey and drizzly. Sadly there was an absence of the normally impressive ocean views. as we headed up towards the mountains.

I’m spending the first few days with my nephew Michael and his wife Chloe who moved to Vancouver four years ago from California. Both are keen on sports and enjoying the outdoorsy lifestyle Vancouver offers.
Eating out in an Italian restaurant in Chinatown, where the girls are stoking up on carbs. Tomorrow Chloe and her friend Sherine are taking part in a triathlon in Stanley Park, which is considered one of the crown jewels of the city – a place where you can connect with nature, enjoy outdoor activities and appreciate the beauty of nature.

Stanley Park spanning over 1,000 acres is a lush urban forest.

It would have been nice to have had time to explore the Park and also the many architectural influences here which seem as diverse as it’s people, but the time was short and later I’m taking the Nanaimo ferry to ‘the island’.I’m headed out to see my friends in Qualicum Beach where the weather is due to take a turn for the better. 🤞
