The name “Qualicum” originates from the Indigenous Coast Salish language spoken by the Qualicum First Nation, who are the original inhabitants of the area. The exact meaning of the word Qualicum varies but the one I’ve noticed most often is ‘where the dog salmon run’
Today we visited a First Nation cultural centre in Comox where we saw some beautiful examples of symbolic indigenous art work and jewellery.
